Christine Alfaro, Seth's mom, is the mother of 11 children. She and her husband, Christopher, have been married for over 30 years

On the night of February 13, 2017, they rushed to the hospital under police escort. Their 21-year-old son, Seth, had fallen 25 feet through a roof and sustained severe brain injuries. They did not know if he would live or die. Upon arrival, they began a vigil at their son's bedside that would last for weeks.

 

It was not the first time that Chris found herself at the bedside of one of her children as he or she lay hooked up to machines, fighting for their life. It was not the first time she turned to her heavenly father and begged Him for a miracle... She and her husband had already buried four of their precious children.

Christine had just spent the year prior to Seth's accident writing a book about her spiritual journey through those losses. A journey that led her from ultimate despair to unbelievable joy. A journey toward not only accepting God's will for her life, but seeking it out, embracing it, and actually desiring it above all else. It was a journey toward total surrender and ultimate joy.

She didn't realize it at the time, but God was using that year to prepare her for another journey she was yet to take. He was reminding her of the lessons she had learned and preparing her in mind, heart and spirit to trust Him and to seek His will before her own. Just weeks after finishing her first draft, she found herself once again facing every parent's worse nightmare. And she had to somehow put the words she had written to the test. She had to, once again, place another of her beloved children into God's hands and...eventually....give herself over to God's will for Seth's life and for her own.

 

Christine's story is one of remarkable grace--God's grace. It touches everyone who hears it. Chris believes that her story, like Seth's, is not meant for them alone, but is meant to be shared to help others on their faith journeys.
